Stock Photo Description: A commemoration stone laid in honour/honor of Harold Godwinsson, King of England who was slain on this spot in 1066. Not only did he lose The Battle of Hastings and the English throne, as well as his life, but his body was so badly mutilated, that it could only be identified by his mistress Edith Swan-neck. His remains are now interred at Waltham Abbey. Duke William became King William 1st and ruled England until 1087.
