After two weeks of violent protests by the ultra-orthodox Jewish community, wreaking havoc in Jerusalem, against having a gay parade in the Holy City of Jerusalem, a compromise was achieved. The gay community would not march but rather hold a rally in the Hebrew University Stadium on Givat Ram. Police assigned some 2500 officers to secure the assembly, which turned out to be a very colorful event. Photo shows Israeli Parliament member Ran Cohen, of the Meretz-Yahad Party who arrived to show solidarity. In the past ran Cohen served as Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction and Minister of Industry and Trade.
