Stock Photo Description: A cluster of frog eggs, suspended in a gelatinous matrix, rests in a plastic bucket filled with pond water. Both the gelatinous matrix and the eggs are semitransparent. Consequently, both the individual frog eggs and the individual larva within each egg are visible. A single stalk (brown, straight) running through the middle of the cluster is the remnant of a reed to which the cluster was attached. During the shoot, the egg mass was constantly submerged in cool pond water to protect the eggs from drying, and to prevent chemical and thermal shocks. The egg cluster was returned to its original resting place in the pond immediately after the shoot. The shoot was carefully planned and quickly executed to minimize the amount of time the eggs would be out of the pond.
