Stock Photo Description: Stock photo of sparrowhawk eating a small bird. Sorry if it's a bit gory, but that's the nature of this species - it eats small birds (although they have been recorded to kill birds up to partridge size and small mammals as well.) The first thing I knew was that our friendly garden blackbird was making an insistent noisy strange call this morning (an 'alarm' call), and when I looked out this sparrowhawk was busy dissecting a young bird on the lawn. Not something to want to watch before breakfast, but I attempted a shot to record this rare event. Stock photography by Jen Best.
