An artist's concept shows the Astro-E2 spacecraft, set to launch this month. A joint effort between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the mission carries a new type of X-ray spectrometer, which will help scientists study neutron stars, active and merging galaxies, black holes and supernovae.
