Stock Photo Description: A family of Dexter cattle: bull, right; calves, left; and cow, rear, partly obscured. The Dexter is regarded as the smallest of the modern cattle breeds. It is now rather rare and is a short-legged version of the Kerry that became popular in Ireland in the late 1800s. It is prone to poor calf survival and is therefore has little commercial value for large scale farming, though it is popular with rare breed enthusiasts. Dexters are most often black but also occur in red and also the dun coloration shown here.
