Stock Photo Description: Young Holstein-Friesian cows, Canterbury, New Zealand. Introduced to New Zealand in 1884 and often simply known as Friesian, this breed is based on the Dutch Friesian and American Holstein breeds and is now the dominant breed in local dairy production. Most of the commonly seen black and white dairy cows worldwide now have this breeding, regardless of being commonly know as Friesian (Europe, Australia, New Zealand) or Holstein (U.S. and Canada).
