Stock Photo Description: Stock photo of Ruthven Barracks. The remains of the fortification seen today were built by the government to tighten their hold on the highland of Scotland. After the Battle of Culloden, it was attacked by Jacobites in 1746 and the garrison surrendered. It was also the meeting point for 3000 Jacobites who assembled with the intention of fighting on after the battle but a message was waiting for them from Bonnie Prince Charlie, saying that each man should save himself as best he could. A cruel blow to those loyal men. They set fire to the barracks before leaving and the remaining structure is much as we see it today.
