Stock Photo Description: Stock photograph of an artisanal gold miner covered in dirt from a day's hard toil in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The local miners extract gold ore from lodes and gravel beds at the base of narrow circular shafts up to 40 metres deep. They extract the ore by conventiontal gravity sluicing, but more and more are turning to primitive cyanide leaching methods that are harmful to the local community and environment.
